Vehicle Overview

Launched just last year, the Subaru Ascent has made quite a splash in the automobile world. It has managed to retain the best-known attributes of Subaru vehicles-standard all-wheel drive and rugged looks-with the practicality of three-row seating. The 2020 model year doesn't change much; apart from the addition of a rear-seat reminder, it's the same vehicle that Subaru debuted in 2019 as its largest ever. The 2020 Subaru Ascent is available in four trim levels: a base-level model, the Premium, the Limited, and the Touring.

Southfield MI - 2020 Subaru Ascent's Overview

Base Trim - 2020 Subaru Ascent

Under the hood of the 2020 Subaru Ascent is a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four cylinder engine that provides 260 horses and 277 lb-ft of torque. It provides enough acceleration power, and it is strapped to a continuously variable transmission for a smooth driving feel due to the lack of gears. Paddle shifters go on the steering wheel for more convenient transmission operation. Of course, Subaru's proprietary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system pushes power to all four wheels for ultimate tire grip on the driving surface, with X-MODE technology to drastically reduce wheelspin. But the Ascent's main strength is in its interior. Spacious and airy, you will enjoy the 153.5 cubic feet of passenger space. Even when it's reduced to 15o cubic feet with the addition of a power moonroof, that's still a lot of space for occupants.

Speaking of occupants, the three rows in the Ascent can accommodate up to eight people. However, if you favor a pair of captain's chairs in the second row over a bench-style seat, maximum occupancy is reduced to seven. Cargo space is also substantial. It is rated at a standard 17.8 cubic between the third-row seat and the liftgate, with the ability to fold down the third row for expansion up to 47.5 cubic feet or both second and third rows for a max of 86.5 cubic feet. For entertainment, the 2020 Ascent relies on the Starlink multimedia system. Anchored with a 6.5-inch LCD touchscreen, Starlink combines elements such as six speakers, AM/FM radio, a single-disc CD player, Bluetooth for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, a USB port for hooking up your mobile device, and four months of SiriusXM satellite radio. For enhancing comfort, there's an automatic climate control system for all three zones of rows in the vehicle.

Safety on the Subaru Ascent is truly anchored by EyeSight. This is a driver-assistance suite that includes adaptive cruise control for keeping you at a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you, pre-collision braking for helping you slow the car down when necessary, lane departure and sway warning for keeping you in your intended lane of driving, and lane keep assist to guide you back to your lane if necessary. EyeSight joins several other commonplace safety features on the Ascent. Six airbags-two frontal impact, two side impact, and two side curtain airbags-provide restraint and cushioning if a crash occurs. Electronic stability, traction, and trailer stability control help with keeping your vehicle stable on the road. Hill descent control allows you to safely drive down a slope. Active torque vectoring, ABS, brake assist, and brake override enhance handling and stopping power. A rearview camera monitors whatever is behind you when backing out of a parking spot or garage. And daytime running lights make your presence known to others to help prevent unnecessary accidents.

Premium Trim - Subaru Ascent in Southfield MI

The Premium is a substantial step up from the base-level model. Upgrading to the Premium adds a few more comfort, convenience, and safety features. The front seats get 8-way power adjustability and heating ability, the cloth trim is upgraded with stain-resistant quality, and the steering wheel is wrapped in leather. Climate controls are extended to the second row, and there's keyless entry for authorized access with the press of your key fob. The 6.5-inch touchscreen gives way to a larger, 8-inch touchscreen. Subaru adds HD radio for digital AM/FM tuning, and there's an additional USB port for charging your phone and an audio jack for playing media from it. Hands-free text messaging ability and voice-activated controls make execution of infotainment functions safer and more convenient, and a Wi-Fi hotspot enables Internet access at 4G LTE speeds. Driver assistance gets a major boost on the Premium trim level with the addition of blind spot detection, lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. Also added is the Subaru Safety and Security package, which includes functions such as automatic collision notification, SOS emergency assistance, roadside assistance, remote engine start, and monthly vehicle health reporting.

Limited Trim - 2020 Subaru Ascent dealer

The Limited is geared toward a more luxurious experience. Cloth seat trim gives way to leather upholstery, and heating ability is now extended to the steering wheel and second-row seats. In addition, the driver's seat gets 10-way power, positioning memory, and power lumbar support, and the front passenger seat gets 4-way power. Convenience enhancements include proximity keyless entry with push-button engine start, auto-dimming ability on the rearview mirror with a garage-door opener, and dual USB ports in the second row to charge additional mobile devices. Driver assistance, once again, gets a boost with high beam assist and reverse automotive braking.

Touring Trim - 2020 Subaru Ascent

The top-level Touring level provides the ultimate Subaru Ascent experience. Exclusive to this trim are front-seat cooling, third-row dual USB ports, 8-inch LCD touchscreen navigation, a 14-speaker 792-watt Harman Kardon stereo system, and an 180-degree front-view camera in place of the rearview one.
