Detroit MI - 2021 Subaru Forester's Overview

Exterior - 2021 Subaru Forester

The exterior of the Forester remains mostly unchanged this year, save for functional upgrades like the steering responsive headlamps that adapt to nighttime driving. The contour of the Forester is excellent as always and gets a 105.1 inch wheelbase, 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and a base curb weight of 3,453 pounds. The base model sports 17 inch steel wheels, but tires go all the way up to 18 inches on your Forester Touring trim. All-season tires lend a nice touch to customers who want to off-road.

The 2021 Forest gets huge upgrades in technology, including the Subaru DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System, a continuing innovation now incorporated into the EyeSight Driver Assist technology that Subaru created themselves. Up to five drivers can be added to this system, and the model will recognize them immediately and remember their settings. It's part comfort, part safety. Headroom and legroom are generous in the front and rear this year, with a whopping 41.2 inches of headroom in the front and 39.6 inches of headroom in the rear. For the most part, this is the same as the 2020 Forester. However, the spacing between seats and the positioning of the seatbelts makes the 2021 model far superior. Cloth or leather interior seating is available this year as in last year; however, there's a seat belt reminder in the rear on the 2021 model that isn't available at all on the 2020 model. The extras are all carried over and tweaked for the 2021 model. You'll have access to SUBARU STARLINK, a panoramic power moonroof, and luxurious leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter handle. You can take these upgrades or leave them.

You'll find your 2021 Forester much more pleasant to drive this year thanks to revamped transmission engineering that makes the 2021 model much more responsive to your commands. When you're facing a hill or other tough spot in the road, the 2021 model is geared more heftily. Both models get a CVT transmission configuration, but you'll find that the more efficient engine on the 2021 model is by far better at capturing the spirited acceleration that Subaru always wanted for the Forester. If you're buying purely on drive quality alone, you can ask Glassman Subaru for our opinion: that the 2021 is by far more responsive and better to drive.

The 182 horsepower 2.5L DOHC engine gets its power at 5,800 RPM and distributes 176 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 RPM. The horsepower itself is unchanged, but that's not a bad thing. As we all know, Subaru's Boxer engines are built to last. It isn't unusual to see the same great engine on a model from year to year. 2022 will be the first year in awhile that the Forester gets a brand new engine - possibly - but for now, we're thrilled to see that Subaru stuck with what works on the current shape and aerodynamics of the Forester in 2021.

Safety - 2021 Subaru Forester dealer

Driver EyeSight technology remains the staple of the Subaru brand right now. Studies have shown that this system continues to reduce collisions and literally save lives on the road everyday. And thanks to a vehicle that's smart enough to monitor your driving and attention, you'll find that you brake, steer, and accelerate more efficiently, sparing your engine and other components from harsh actions that might wear them down over time. This year's symmetrical all-wheel drive is by far more tuned and ready for the road than the 2020 model, but that's not the only upgrade. The DriverFocus system is a huge boon to the 2021 model, and then you'll get standard automatic high-beams and responsive LED headlamps on the 2021 model that were high priced on the 2020 edition. Unchanged is the basics of the Forester, and those include blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.
